  • Digital Prepress Technician
    JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Manager of Pre-Press Services, the Technician processes customer files, pre-flighting the jobs and preparing them for imaging directly to plate, ensuring the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost, while meeting customer delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Receive customer files. Pre-flight the files according to departmental procedures, checking for trapping, overprinting, proper resolution, color corrections, and building proper files for output. Convert to CMYK as required.
    Ensure files meet customer specifications, making any necessary corrections, and output proofs.
    Check proofs for accuracy. Send to film or directly to plate. Check plates for accuracy.
    Ensure job has been checked by customer.
    Archive jobs for possible future use.
    Interface with customers, the sales department and co-workers to address and resolve any problems.
    Participate on cross functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.
    Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in the industry.
    Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
    Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
    MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Archive files as needed.
    Trim proofs as required.
    Perform computer maintenance.
    Prepare proof books. Output plates when necessary.
    QUALIFICATIONS: Must have working knowlege of programs such as, Quark, Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator. Knowlege of Nexus Rip and Preps a plus. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires an associate's degree in a related field and one to three years of related experience; or four years of high school and four to six years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of education and experience.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents and customer files for technical specifications. Ability to prepare reports and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and other employees of the organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires the knowledge of and the ability to operate a Macintosh computer and related software, a plate-setter, image-setter, proofer, printers, and scanner.
